HLL Lifecare Limited commenced its journey on 1st March 1966 to serve the nation in the area of healthcare. It was incorporated as a corporate entity under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. HLL was set up in the state of Kerala in order to produce male contraceptive sheaths for the National Family Welfare Programme. HLL commenced commercial operations on 5th April 1969 at Peroorkada in Thiruvananthapuram. Two more state-of-the-art manufacturing plants were added later, one at Trivandrum and other at Belgaum, Karnataka.
Today, HLL Lifecare Limited is the only company in the world manufacturing and marketing the widest range of contraceptives. As HLL kept adding different contraceptives to its impressive portfolio, the company also started to give shape to many other products, with relentless Research and Development. These include Women's healthcare products, blood transfusion equipment, wound care products, other hospital products and sanitary napkin vending machines. Each category caters to a different segment of society. Leveraging its strengths and expertise gained through the years, HLL has today grown in to a multi-product, multi-unit organisation addressing various public health challenges faced by humanity. HLL has an exhaustive assortment of products, from the popular brand of condoms 'MOODS' to sanitary napkin brand 'HAPPY DAYS'. 'Saheli' which is the world's first non-steroidal pill, manufactured by HLL, has been included in the National Family Planning program by the Government of India since 1991.
HLL complies to the highest quality standards, and has manufacturing facilities with the ISO 9001:2000, ISO 13485:2003 and environmental management system certifications. HLL has the FDA 510(K) registration, CE Mark, KITE mark and SABS mark for male condoms.
